Sample assessment
The source identifies granular bone material. It gives two wet-milling observations but no initial particle-size distribution.
Analyst consideration: For bone-derived material, a D90 well above D50 signals a distribution tail that the median alone would conceal. Comparing tooling is useful only with matched liquid content, material preparation and recovery.
Recorded objective
Observe the response; no numerical acceptance target was entered.
Equipment and selection
The machine entry is XQM. TENCAN Vertical square planetary ball mill is associated at the recorded series level. No exact housing variant is inferred from jar capacity or an abbreviated machine label.
Test setup
| Jar entry | Nylon250 |
|---|---|
| Media entry | Zirconia 250 |
| Media-charge notation | Standard charge; individual specification not recorded |
| Sample-load entry | 100 (unit not stated) |
| Controller speed setting | 550 |
| Cycle notation | 5/1 |
Unlabelled jar, media and load numbers remain source notation, not assigned units. Controller settings are not certified rpm. The cycle notation has no independently stated timing unit or reversing definition.
Recorded procedure and results
The nylon-jar setup used zirconia media and 75 g added water. After twenty minutes it recorded D50 = 2 µm and D90 = 21 µm. A further corundum entry 500 with zirconia entry 500 produced a twenty-minute sample with D50 = 1 and D90 = 1.6; units are not repeated for this second pair.
Interpretation
The two distribution pairs must retain their distinct configurations and unit limitations. The first pair has a much wider D90-to-D50 separation. The record suggests a favorable second result but does not establish that jar material alone caused the difference.
Practical precautions
Confirm units and actual loads for the second setup. Use matched material portions, water content and analytical preparation when comparing the two twenty-minute samples.
TENCAN alternatives to evaluate
TENCAN Laboratory Full-Directional Planetary Ball Mill. For bone suspension, tumbling can be evaluated at the same twenty-minute sample time. Match water content and actual charge before interpreting the differences between the two recorded distribution pairs. Assembly tumbling provides a suspension-redistribution comparison, potentially changing how residual coarse fragments encounter media; that possibility needs matched twenty-minute distribution measurements. This is an untested comparison proposal, not a result of this trial.
Association follows the explicit XQM source entry; only recorded tested series/configurations are related. No jar-volume inference.
