Particle sizes for the recorded sample and sampling time.
Sample assessment
The sample is granular quartz sand, tested as a 300 g dry charge in corundum with zirconia media. Its one-hour distribution still had D50 43 µm and D90 107 µm, making the later checkpoint necessary to assess the specified median objective. The recorded temperature also belongs in the selection assessment.
Recorded objective
A D50 objective of 20 µm; the result field states that the requirement was met.
Equipment and selection
The source identifies XQM family. The related TENCAN product association is Vertical square planetary ball mill. This identifies the recorded equipment family, rather than an independently verified serial-number configuration. Jar contact materials and charge details below are test observations; an unspecified steel grade or ball-percentage basis is not supplied by the association.
Test setup
| Recorded setup | XQM planetary family; corundum jar and zirconia balls, standard charge; 300 g granular quartz; header speed setting 500; run/pause cycle recorded as 5:1; interval units unspecified. |
|---|---|
| Speed notation | Values are retained as recorded speed settings. The source does not identify the revolution/rotation reference; no separate jar speed is inferred. |
Recorded procedure and results
The quartz sand was processed by dry milling. At the 60-minute checkpoint the recorded jar temperature was 62 °C, D50 = 43 µm and D90 = 107 µm. At the 150-minute checkpoint the sample gave D50 = 12.3 µm and D90 = 30.5 µm. The source identifies this as the first sample and supplies no further sample-specific measurements. The duration field also records 150 minutes.
Interpretation
The later D50 is below the recorded 20 µm objective and the trial is explicitly accepted. The D90 of 30.5 µm remains a separate description of the coarser distribution: acceptance at the median is not an all-particle limit. Both reported percentiles declined between the two samples, giving a clearer basis for the successful outcome than the completion label alone. The 62 °C observation applies to the earlier checkpoint; no temperature was supplied for the final sample.
Practical precautions
Check feed-size consistency before reproducing the 300 g charge. Log temperature through the longer stage and compare recovery from the jar with the sampled powder. Confirm that corundum and zirconia contact fit the intended analytical or product-purity requirements.
TENCAN alternatives to evaluate
TENCAN Low temperature planetary grinding machine: Evaluate an air-cooled arrangement if the quartz trial needs a documented temperature ceiling; the one-hour sample was already at 62 °C. Compare final D50, temperature and recovery at the same charge before extending the dry run. This is a recommendation for a new comparison, not an observed result of this trial.
Endpoint context: D50 = 12.3 µm; D90 = 30.5 µm at 150 minutes.
Tested equipment association only: XQM family; exact machine variant not inferred. Alternative products are evaluation candidates in the body only.
