Sample assessment
The material was silicon nitride powder. Grade, starting size and any phase or contamination limits were not supplied.
Analyst consideration: For silicon nitride, a fine-powder objective should be considered alongside contact-derived contamination and the coarse distribution tail. The accepted appearance or status does not itself establish either of these attributes.
Recorded objective
Observe the milling response and obtain an acceptable sample; no numerical target was entered.
Equipment and selection
The machine entry is XQM. TENCAN Vertical square planetary ball mill is associated at the recorded series level. No exact housing variant is inferred from jar capacity or an abbreviated machine label.
Test setup
| Jar entry | Corundum250 |
|---|---|
| Media entry | Zirconia 250 |
| Media-charge notation | 3-150/5-50/8-50 |
| Sample-load entry | Not recorded |
| Controller speed setting | 600 |
| Cycle notation | 5/1 |
Unlabelled jar, media and load numbers remain source notation, not assigned units. Controller settings are not certified rpm. The cycle notation has no independently stated timing unit or reversing definition.
Recorded procedure and results
The setup records a corundum jar, zirconia media and a speed setting of 600. Samples were taken at two hours and three hours. The procedure states that the three-hour sample could meet the requirement, and the result field explicitly marks acceptance. No values were supplied for the earlier sample.
Interpretation
The positive outcome is the recorded three-hour acceptance. It provides a usable comparison sampling time but cannot be presented as a particular D50, D90 or guaranteed silicon-nitride fineness.
Practical precautions
Define the actual particle-size and contamination criteria before repetition. Record the sample mass and media distribution explicitly because the source omits the former and uses a compact charge notation.
TENCAN alternatives to evaluate
TENCAN Laboratory Full-Directional Planetary Ball Mill. For silicon nitride, an full-directional comparison can use the two- and three-hour samples with identical tooling. Define fineness and contamination acceptance before evaluating a change. QXQM adds bed reorientation and thus changes material redistribution; keeping the two sampling times and tooling matched would make that motion the specific selection question. This is an untested comparison proposal, not a result of this trial.
Association follows the explicit XQM source entry; only recorded tested series/configurations are related. No jar-volume inference.
